Every five years, a library should overhaul its strategic five-year plan. The Board of Trustees and director should conduct a review of the plan with action items each subsequent year. Having a five-year plan on file with the state enables a library to be eligible for certain grants from the state, including construction and technology grants.
This year, the Bigelow Free Public Library is starting its five-year cycle. We have formed a Strategic Planning committee consisting of Trustees, staff, Friends, residents, municipal employees, librarians from other entities, and students.
The five-year strategic plan is based on the feedback from the public and outlines a reasonable five-year plan for the library.
