Board of Library Trustees minutes from the meeting of Feb. 8, 2017
The meeting was called to order at 10:58 a.m. in the lower level of the library.
In attendance were: Trustees Gloria Parkinson, chairwoman; Wendy Neil, vice-chairwoman; Tracy Colangione, Russ Grady, Karen Nugent; and Library Director Marie Mueller.
Two letters of interest for the trustee vacancy, from Carol A. Parkman and Julianna Record-Massalski, were discussed. A motion was made by Ms. Neil and seconded by Ms. Nugent to recommend Ms. Record-Massalski for the position. The board voted 4-1 in favor of Ms. Record-Massalski, with Mr. Grady casting the nay vote.
The board planned to meet with the selectmen Feb. 15 for a joint vote on the two applicants.
Mr. Grady pointed out that there is a discrepancy in closing the library versus other town buildings during inclement weather. The inclement weather policy will be discussed at the next meeting.
The board discussed getting financial information and contractor details for renovating the lower conference room, and how much money to request as a grant from the Clinton Home Foundation.
Ms. Mueller said she has received bids of $16,500 for a French door, replacement windows, and repairing and repainting walls. There was a bid of $3,580 for lighting; and estimates of $16,176 and $13,200 for furniture, depending on the type of furniture.
Ms. Neil suggested adding one or two “comfy” type chairs (not recliners) to replace the old leather sofa, and perhaps a small table in between the chairs to replace the existing coffee table.
The items totaled around $39,000 but the board decided to hold off on voting until the next meeting, when Ms. Mueller will provide a detailed breakdown of costs and Gloria Parkinson will provide a draft letter to the Clinton Home Foundation. Then the board will proceed with a formal application for a specific amount from the Clinton Home Foundation.
The meeting was adjourned (motion by Mr. Grady, seconded by Ms. Colangione) at 11:52 a.m.
The next meeting will take place at the selectmen’s meeting Feb. 15 at Town Hall.
The next regular trustee meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 16 at the library.
